Controlling Regulators using TVD Connectors (SWMM)
TVD Connectors can be used to provide a link between data streams in a Time Series Database (TSDB) and a Regulator. The data stream profiles are used as an input to a regulator object to control the regulator.
To use TVD connectors to control the status of a regulator:
- Ensure that the TVD connector ID is the same as the name of the time series in the SWMM Control Rule.
- Set the Input A units type to FRAC. The Input B units type, Input C units type and Output units fields will automatically be set to FRAC.
- Set Input A to the ID of a data stream in the applicable Time Series Database or to another TVD connector. Set the Input B and Input C if required.
- Set Connection object type to the applicable regulator object - pump, orifice, outlet or weir.
The values provided by the TSDB data streams will then be used to control the regulator.

The output units required for different regulator types are listed below:
Regulator type |
Regulated variable |
Unit type |
---|---|---|
Pump | On/off status, and pump speed | Frac - Fraction |
Orifice | Opening size | Frac - Fraction |
Weir | Crest level | Frac - Fraction |
Outlet | Flow | Frac - Fraction |
